Philip Moss

Cuireann Philip Moss taispeántas mórscála de shaothar úrnua agus a cruthú le gairid  i láthair, ceann a léiríonn na hionspioráidí a chuaigh i bhfeidhm ar a chuid ealaíne go dtí seo.

Nuair a bhí Moss ina pháiste, chaith sé dhá bhliain go leith san ospidéal. Bhí sé ceithre bliana d’aois nuair a chuaigh sé isteach, agus seisear go leith nuair a tháinig sé amach. Caoga cúig bliana ar aghaidh, tá sé ag déanamh an tsaothair is pearsanta dá shaol, agus tá sé ag tarraingt as an tráma agus na heispéiris mhúnlaithigh sin.

Tá cónaí ar Moss i nDún na nGall le breis agus 30 bliain, tar éis dó bogadh ó Londain áit a raibh sé ag obair le Auerbach, Bacon agus Freud. Tá stíl uathúil ag baint lena shaothair, idir shóisialta agus pholaitiúil, uaireanta bíonn sé seo caolchúiseach, go minic níos dírí. Rinneadh cur síos ar a phictiúir mar seo ‘blas neamhchoitianta ag baint lena shaothair, thiocfadh a rá go bhfuil tréith beagnach spioradálta i gceist’. Tá aicsean agus péintéireacht mar a chéile aige – is na cúrsaí coinsiasa amháin iad.

Philip Moss

Philip Moss presents a large-scale exhibition of new and recent work, representing a range of inspiration that has impacted his work to date.

When Moss was a child, he spent two and a half years in hospital. He was four when he went in, and six and a half when he came out. Fifty-five years later, he is making the most personal work of his life, and he has gone back to the trauma of that formative experience.

Moss has lived in Donegal for over 30 years, having moved from London where he worked with Auerbach, Bacon and Freud. His art practice has an edge, both social and political, sometimes this is subtle, often more direct. His paintings have been described as being ‘tinged with a rare, almost spiritual quality’. For him, action and painting are one in the same – they are purely matters of conscience.
