Ceol ón Cheo - Music From Anything
Ceol ón Cheo
Le Barry Kerr
Taispeántas spreagtha ag ceol agus ceoltórí Dhún na nGall
‘Sna laetha sin dhéanfadh na seancheoltóirí ceol as achan rud. Dhéanfadh siad ceol as fuaim na farraige nó rachadh siad go taobh na habhann nuair a bheadh tuile ann agus thógfadh siad ceol as sin. Dhéanfadh siad ceol as seilg an chú agus an ghiorria. Dhéanfadh siad ceol as rud ar bith.’ John Doherty
Agus é ag machnadh ar chuid focail an fhidléara John Doherty, chruthaigh an t-ealaíontóir Barry Kerr taispeántas atá spreagtha ag ceol agus tírdhreach Dhún na nGall. Chuir an Scoil Gheimhridh agus An Gailearaí 2019 fáilte roimh Barry Kerr mar an chéad ealaíontóir cónaitheach chuig an fhéile. Tabhrann an saothar seo in ola agus canbhás beatha agus beocht do na foinn, do na hamhráin agus do mhuintir na gcnoc agus na farraige, ag cruthú tréithe lán de bhrí de chaomhnóirí ceoil an cheantair agus a dtraidisiúin ar leith.
Music From Anything
Barry Kerr
An exhibition inspired by the music and musicians of Donegal
‘The old musicians in them days, they would take music from anything. They would take music from the sound of the sea, or they would go alongside of the river at the time of the flood and they would take music from that. They would take music from the chase of the hound and the hare. They would take music from several things.’ John Doherty
Reflecting on fiddler John Doherty’s words, artist Barry Kerr has created an exhibition inspired by the music and landscape of Donegal. Scoil Gheimhridh and An Gailearaí 2019 welcome Barry Kerr as the first ‘artist-in-residence’ to the festival. This body of work in oil and canvas brings to life the tunes, the songs and the people of mountain and sea, creating a deeply expressive portrayal of the region’s musical custodians and their unique traditions.
