Faoi Spéartha Thír Chonaill
Johnny Boyle
Tá lúcháir mhór ar An Gailearaí, Gaoth Dobhair, taispeántas d’oibreacha úra leis an ealaíontóir cáiliúil as Na Gleanntaí, Johnny Boyle, a chur in bhur láthair. Tá aithne leitheadach ar Johnny ar fud an chontae, ní amháin mar úinéir Óstán Highlands ach fosta mar éalaíontóir a bhfuil grá agus meas ag cuid mhór air. Tháinig sé ar an tsaol sna Gleanntaí i nDún na nGall sa bhliain 1951 agus tá sé ag déanamh ealaíon ó bhí sé an-óg. Chaith sé dhá bhliain sa Choláiste Ealaíona i nDún Laoire go luath sna seachtóidí ach amharcann sé air féin mar dhuine nach raibh de mhúinteoir aige ach é féin den chuid is mó. Níor thosaigh sé ag péintéireacht i ndáiriré go dtí 1988 nuair a bhí taispeántas aige ag Scoil Samhraidh Mac Gill.
Péinteáil sé tírdhreacha den chuid is mó; i gconaí ag iarraidh bealaí úra lena chuid mothúcháin ar an cheantar thart air in iarthair Thír Chonaill a chur in iúl ar dhóigheanna éagsúla. Mar a bheithfeá ag súil leis, tá na hoibreacha úra seo déanta go galánta le bua ar leith agus scil iontach. Tá na radharcanna ar thírdhreacha Thír Chonaill, cuid acu coitianta agus cuid eile nach bhfuil chomh coitanta sin, agus tá na praghasanna réasúnta don bhronntanas speisialta sin.
Bhí taispeántais leitheadacha ag Johnny in Éirinn, san Eoraip agus fiú sna Stáit Aontaithe. Tá meas mór ar a chuid pictiúirí, go speisialta a chuid uiscedhathanna, agus tá rachairt mhór orthu ar fud na hÉireann, go háirithe i dTír Chonaill, agus tá siad le fáil i mórán bailiúchán príobháideach ar fur an domhain.
Under a Donegal Sky
Johnny Boyle
An Gailearaí Gaoth Dobhair is delighted to present an exhibition of new works by accomplished Glenties artist Johnny Boyle. Johnny is well known throughout the county not only as proprietor of the Highlands Hotel but as a much loved and respected artist. Born in Glenties, Donegal in 1951 Johnny has been making art from an early age. He spent two years at the Dunlaoghaire College of Art in the early seventies but considers himself mainly self-taught. Johnny didn't start painting seriously until 1988 when he exhibited at The Mac Gill Summer School.
He paints, almost exclusively, landscapes; always trying new ways of expressing his feelings for the surrounding area of west Donegal in various media. As expected, these new works are exquisitely executed with flair and great skill. The scenes are of Donegal landscapes some familiar and some less so and are at affordable prices for that special present.
Johnny has exhibited extensively both in Ireland, Europe and even the United States. His paintings, especially his watercolours, are well regarded and sought after throughout Ireland and Donegal in particular and can be found in private collections throughout the world.
