Triúr
Dolores McGarvey, Ewan Berry, Sally McFadden
Tá lúcháir mhór ar Cheardlann na gCroisbhealach saothar na n-ealaíontóirí cumasacha deismireacha áitiúla seo a chur i láthair. Tá Sally McFadden, Dolores McGarvey agus Ewan Berry ina n-ealaíontóirí dígeanta díograiseacha, cé nach saothar 2-D a cloíonn siad leis i dtólamh. Tá a spéiseanna, stíleanna agus a ndearcadh sainiúil féin ag gach duine den triúr.
Rinne Sally McFadden bunchúrsa ealáine san Institiúid Teicneolaíocht i Leitir Ceanainn, ach maíonn sí go bhfuil sí féinfhoglamtha. Bhí dhá thaispeántas aonair aici i Leitir Ceanainn, ar éirí go hiontach maith leo, an ceann is deareanaí san ‘Ace of Arts’ i mí Dheireadh Fómhair 2004. San am i láthair, tá Sally ag obair ar shaothair theibhí úrnua agus tá súil aici iad a chur ar taispeáint gan mhoill – guíonn muid gach rath uirthi. Cuimsíonn a cuid canbhás lánléargais ollmhéid agus drámaíocht ár dtírdhreach áitiúil. Is de bharr a tabhairt fá dear na difríochtaí soiléire séasúracha nó na hathruithe beaga laethúla, le cois a smacht muiníneach líofa ar a meán, atá na saothair seo chomh héifeachta sin.
Mar an gcéanna, tá Dolores McGarvey féinfhoghlamtha agus d’fhreastail sí ar ranganna ealaíne i Leitir Ceanainn ar feadh dornán blianta. Thosaigh sí ag cur a saothar ar taispeáint sa bhliain 1999, nuair a bhí sí rannpháirteach sa taispeántas ‘The Sense of Ireland’ in Iostanbúl sa Tuirc. Ó shin, bhí saothar ar taispeáint ag Dolores san ‘Ace of Arts’ mar pháirt den Ghrúpa Ealáine ‘Dúchas’ i rith 2001 – 2003 agus i nGailearaí an Harbour, sna Dúnaibh in 2004. Tá gaol láidir ag Dolores le hInis Bó Finne agus ar an tséala sin, fuair sí inspreagadh do mhórán de na saothair atá ar taispeáint a bhuíochas dá cuairteanna minice ar an oileán. Tá scil an ealaíontóir ó thaobh aistriú an rud a tchí sí go dtí an canbhás thar a bheith feiceálach, go háirithe nuair atá sí ag péinteáil uisce agus ansin a cheangal go deismir le spéir.
Fuair Ewan Berry céim sna Mínealaíona ón D.I.T. sa bhliain 1995. Is ar dhealbhóireacht is mó a dhíríonn sé a éirim chruthaitheach ach tá spéis aige fosta i líníocht, grianghrafadóireacht agus scannánaíocht. Bhí Ewan páirteach i dtaispeántais grúpa san am a chuaigh thart ach is fearr leis a bheith ag obair amach as comhthéacs an ghailearaí agus a bheith gníomhach i dtograí ealaíon pobail, macasamhail an Grúpa Carnabhail Cosa Meata agus grúpa dealbhóireachta na timpeallachta, an Cosán Glas. Is le linn ranganna bheathalíníochta sa Cheardlann a rinne sé na saothair atá sa taispeántas seo. Staidéir ghasta den fhíor atá iontu a cuireadh i gcrích laistigh de chúig bhomaite go cúig bhomaite is fiche agus dá thairbhe sin, tá deonacht iontach le tabhairt fá dear iontu. Tá na línte líofa muiníneach agus cruthaíonn siad íomhá deiridh núíosach.
Triúr
Dolores McGarvey, Ewan Berry, Sally McFadden
Ceardlann na gCroisbhealach is delighted to present work by these competent and eloquent local artists. Sally McFadden, Dolores McGarvey and Ewan Berry are consistent and committed producers, although not always 2-D work. They each have three distinctly differing interests, styles and perspectives.
Sally McFadden completed an art foundation course in L.Y.I.T. but regards herself as self-taught. She has successfully produced two solo exhibitions in Letterkenny, the most recent in the ‘Ace of Arts’ in October 2004. Sally is currently developing new abstract works and hopes to exhibit them in the near future, we wish her every success. Her panoramic canvases encapsulate the vastness and drama of our local landscape. The potency of these works is due to her relentless ‘observings’ of the clear seasonal variations or subtle daily changes coupled with her fluent and confident command of her medium.
Dolores McGarvey is again self-taught and has attended art classes in Letterkenny over a number of years. She began exhibiting in 1999 at ‘The Sense of Ireland’ exhibition in Istanbul, Turkey. Dolores has since exhibited in the ‘Ace of Arts’ as part of the ‘Dúchas Art Group’ 2001 – 2003 and The Harbour Gallery, Downings in 2004. Dolores has a strong connection with Inis Bó Finne and many of the works exhibited have been inspired by her numerous visits. The artist’s skill of translating her observations to the canvas is particularly evident when she paints water which is then gracefully married to a sky.
Ewan Berry graduated in Fine Arts at D.I.T. in 1995. His main area of creative activity is primarily sculptural but also has an interest in drawing, photography and film. Ewan has taken part in group shows in the past but prefers working out of the gallery context and being active in community arts projects such as the local Cosa Meata Carnival Band and the Cosan Glas environmental sculpture group. The works exhibited were made during the life drawing classes at the Ceardlann. They are quick figure studies completed in five to twenty five minutes and therefore capture a stunning spontaneity. The marks are fluid and confident rendering a fresh final image.
